What is Scar?
Skin scars are areas of fibrous tissue that replace normal skin after an injury. They are a natural part of the healing process, but their appearance and texture can vary depending on the cause and severity of the injury.
Causes of Skin Scars
Injuries: Cuts, burns, or lacerations can lead to scarring.
Surgery: Surgical incisions often leave scars.
Acne: Severe acne can cause pitted or raised scars.
Infections: Infections, like chickenpox, can result in scars.
Inflammatory Conditions: Conditions such as eczema or psoriasis can lead to scarring.
Trauma: Any physical trauma to the skin can cause scars.
Genetics: Some people are more prone to scarring due to their genetic makeup.
Types of Scars
Hypertrophic Scars: Raised scars that remain within the boundary of the original wound.
Keloid Scars: Raised, thickened scars that extend beyond the original wound area.
Atrophic Scars: Depressed scars, often caused by acne or chickenpox.
Contracture Scars: Scars that cause the skin to tighten, often from burns.
Stretch Marks: Formed when the skin stretches rapidly due to growth spurts or pregnancy.
Protocol of Use
3 to 6 sessions
Once every 21 days
Skin Preparation:
- Cleanse the treatment area to remove any makeup, oil, or dirt.
- Apply a numbing cream (topical anesthetic) to the area 30-45 minutes before the procedure to minimize discomfort.
Performing Microneedling:
- Remove the numbing cream and cleanse the skin again with an antiseptic solution.
- Apply 1 to 1.5 ml of Scar Cocktail on the skin.
- Adjust the needle depth according to the type and location of the scars (typically 1.5-2.5 mm for scar treatment).
- Glide the microneedling device over the skin in vertical, horizontal, and diagonal directions to ensure even coverage.
- Focus more on scarred areas, but do not overwork the skin to avoid excessive irritation.
Post-Treatment Care:
- Apply a soothing serum or hyaluronic acid to calm the skin.
- Use a gentle moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated.
- Advise the patient to avoid sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect the treated area.
Immediate Aftercare:
- Redness and mild swelling are expected for 1-2 days post-treatment.
- Recommend avoiding makeup and strenuous activities that cause sweating for 24-48 hours.
